From the Nettl cadet course, we learnt how to integrate websites to sell online as well as, integrating features with your clients EPOS systems. This is a great feature as it shows stock in real time, for example if a product is out of stock in a warehouse, it will show its not in stock on the website.
This session really helped me to gain and understanding of how website can integrate with other features, and the future of web design. It also helped me to learn the importance of e-commerce in 2017, especially with online shopping becoming increasingly more popular.
Design for Print
In this session, we gained an understanding for print production and learnt how to design to get the best out of print. We learnt how to design for multiple production disciplines including lithography, digital, fabric and more.
This was really beneficial for me to learn, especially within my role where I get quotes for clients. Its important for me to have an understanding of the different print disciplines as well as the production side of print.
We also learned about the different paper weights and finishes that Nettl produces, and how to design for certain effects for example Spot Gloss. As well as, gaining a good understanding of RGB and CMYK and what they are used for. Also, we were shown how to get the closest colour to ‘real black’ and the importance of use of black such as increasing the density of images.
We looked at the risk of four channel CMYK for example the increase chance in mis-registration as well as the use of Pantone colours.
From the Nettl Cadet course, I feel I have a better understanding of print and how to design to create the best impact.
Business and Sales
For one of the last session, we looked at how to build good customer relationships and go the extra mile. This looked at managing clients expectations and reducing the risk of problems. This session was also a great opportunity to meet with other Nettl studios.
First, we investigated the meaning of quality, discussing whether it should be associated with cost or customer’s expectations. After, we discussed the quality of Nettl products in comparison to customer needs. I found this really useful and gained a better understanding of the word ‘quality’.
Next, we looked at common problems in print and how they can be avoided. We role played, different scenarios and how we would deal with them on an individual basis. We had to consider; turn around time, cost and the clients needs. By role playing, we learned how to communicate more effectively and use the best cost effective methods for the client.
As well as, learning how to communicate with customer more effectively by using open questions and expanding into deeper conversations. By using open questions, you are more likely to gain an understanding of someones needs and how to deal with them. It also helps to establish possible solutions and priorities jobs.
